The University of Miami decided not to get off the bus in Chicago, on Saturday night, as #9 Notre Dame improved its 2012 record to 5-0 by blasting the hapless Canes 41-3.  A capacity crowd at Soldier Field watched as Miami, which had scored 86 points in its previous two games, managed only a field goal against Notre Dame’s smothering defense.  Everett Golson had a career day as the Irish offense racked up 587 yards of offense, controlled the ball for 39:08 and compiled 34 first downs- the most surrendered by Miami’s defense…..ever.

The Irish finished with 376 yards on the ground- its most rushing yards, in a game, since putting 380 on Boston College in 2000.  Cierre Wood tallied 118 yards and two touchdowns and George Atkinson added 123 yards and one touchdown- making them the first two Irish backs to eclipse the century mark, in the same game, since Rashon Powers-Neal and Ryan Grant in 2002.

17-7-1 Notre Dame's all time record against Miami is now 17-7-1.  Notre Dame has never lost to Miami at a neutral site and has won three in a row and four of its last five games against the Canes.

48-10 Saturday’s 41-3 victory was Notre Dame’s biggest win over Miami since a 48-10 blowout in 1977- the Irish went on to win the National Championship.  The quarterback was a kid named Joe Montana.

10-0-2 Notre Dame’s all time record at Soldier Field is now 10-0-2. Prior to Saturday, Notre Dame had not played in Soldier Field since 1994.  In his first career start, Ron Powlus threw for four touchdowns in a 42-15 victory over Northwestern.  In 1929, as Notre Dame Stadium was being built, Notre Dame played all their home games at Soldier Field.  Rockne’s Ramblers finished 9-0 and won their 2nd national title in five years.

4-0 In 2009, Notre Dame introduced the “Shamrock Series” as a way to enhance national awareness by hosting one, off-site, home game per year- an admirable idea sans the vomit-inducing uniforms.  With a 2009 victory over Washington State in San Antonio, a 2010 victory over Army in Yankee Stadium, a 2011 victory over Maryland in Washington D.C. and now a 2012 victory over Miami in Chicago, Notre Dame is now 4-0 in the Shamrock Series.  Next year, Notre Dame will play Arizona State at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

16 In its last 19 games, Notre Dame has only allowed 16 3rd quarter points.

7 Notre Dame is #7 in the AP poll this week- its highest ranking since 2006.  Of ND’s remaining opponents, SC (11th), Oklahoma (13th) and Stanford(17th) are also ranked in the top 25.  The computers are even kinder to the Irish- BCS projections have Notre Dame #5.

2005 ESPN’s College Gameday will be on campus, Saturday, as #17 Stanford visits Notre Dame.  It is the crew’s first trip to South Bend since ND-SC in 2005.

5-0 Notre Dame is 5-0 this season- its best start since 2002!

Big win in dominating fashion. Defense continues to be impenetrable. Offense is starting to come out of hibernation. Would like to see more touches for Eifert. Hopefully the Irish will steal the will of the Cardinal just like they did with the U.

thanks for the comment, Lunch. Should be a good game this week. Stanford has their best WR out with a "lower body injury".
